Refurbishment of existing buildings with structural alteration

• What is a building permit for the refurbishment of existing buildings with structural alteration?

This service allows users to apply for a permit to refurbish existing buildings with structural changes. The Rwanda Housing Authority reviews applications to ensure compliance with building regulations before approval. 

This permit should not be confused with the one for refurbishing existing buildings without structural changes.

Anyone who wants to upgrade or modify their building’s structure

• How to apply for a building permit for the refurbishment of existing buildings with structural alteration?

Simply visit : new.irembo.gov.rw

• What do you need before you start applying?

It is important for you to be aware that you can create the application by yourself or assign the application to an engineer/architect.

• If you prefer to use an engineer, please ensure you have consulted with them regarding your project before assigning your application to them. This will help avoid any delays and ensure the engineer is prepared to handle your application efficiently.

• A valid mobile phone number or email (optional) to receive updates and track your application.

• Steps to apply for this service

Step 1: Visit IremboGov at new.irembo.gov.rw and log in to your account. If you don’t have one, click here to learn how to create one.

Step 2: Under Building Permit Services services, select the " Building Permit for Refurbishment of Existing Buildings with Structural Alteration “ service.

Step 3: Click “Apply now” to start the application process.

Step 4:  Fill in the Land owner’s details.

Step 5: Enter your plot's UPI, the system will automatically retrieve the zoning and location details.

Step 6: Fill in your building and development information.

Step 7: Provide the Architect/engineer's and the project information.

Step 8: Upload the required documents in the correct format and click Continue.

Step 9: Verify that the information is accurate; enter a phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click "Create an application”.
